Scotland Itinerary June 12-21 2017

Monday June 11
730 pm Meet Ron Mac Eachen at Halifax airport for check in to Glasgow .Settle in for the overnight flight to Glasgow departing at 10:45 pm, which is just over 5 hour duration.
Tuesday June 12
Arrive at Glasgow airport at 8 a.m. Clear customs. We will immediately go to Edinburgh, one of the most historic cities in Europe and proceed to the hotel arriving around noon. Check in is 3pm. If possible early check in will be arranged.  The remainder of the afternoon is free to rest, visit the shops relax. At  5 pm the group will meet for welcome drink and then proceed to  dinner .Dinner will  followed by optional visit to local Pub

Wednesday June 13
Depart hotel at 9am for a city tour of Edinburgh.  It will cover all the highlights of this majestic city including Holyrood Palace, Royal Mile, Old Town, Scottish Parliament etc. We will have lunch as a group and then proceed to the famous Edinburgh Castle for a tour. At approximately 330 with castle tour you are on you are free for the rest of the day and evening for shopping, a pint or just strolling around the city.

Thursday June 14
730 Depart Edinburgh for Oban ferry terminal. At Approximately 1130 depart for Mull and the visit to the south of Mull and Iona. Mull is reached by a 40 minute ferry ride. Upon arrival in Craignure we immediately proceed to Fionnphort. A short 10 minute crossing as a foot passenger (no cars are allowed to cross) and you arrive on Iona .Iona was a center of Gaelic monasticism for four centuries and is today renowned for its tranquility and natural beauty. Iona Abbey, now an ecumenical church, is of particular historical and religious interest to pilgrims and visitors alike. .After approximately 90 minutes exploring the island we make our way back to Mull and then to Oban. via ferry arriving around 8pm.

Friday June 15
130 pm Depart by ferry from Oban for Castlebay, Barra. Arrival Barra at 630 . Barra is a special place with friendly welcoming people .Proceed directly to your Bed and Breakfast, your home for next two nights. The evening is free with pubs and places of interest yours to explore. Close to you B&B

Saturday June 16
845 We will start our 3 hour tour of Barra and Vatersay with a local guide. There will be all kinds of fascinating information presented as we circle the island. Lunch is on your own that day. In the afternoon we will take a fishing dory out to see Kismul Castle, a five minute crossing to the seat of the Chief of Clan Mac Neil. Later we drop by the historical society building.  In the evening we will have a special evening as we dine at the home of a local family. Residents of Barra, you will a chance to get to know our lovely hosts and some more local friends who will drop by after dinner.

Sunday June 17
In the late morning we depart for the island of Erisky via via ferry and then cross the causeway to South Uist .We will have a lunch in South Uist and the afternoon touring South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist visiting some historical locations. After a full day we will take an evening ferry from Lochmaddy in North Uist to Uig in Skye. Upon arriving in Skye the transfer to the bed and breakfast in Portree .

Monday June 18
9am  Depart your bed and breakfast with the first stop being the lovely village of Portree.  A great place to enjoy a walk about in city center or a stroll along the waterfront. We will then move through the Cullin Hills going south to Eilean Iarmain hotel for Lunch .We then move on to Clan Donald Center for a visit to these gorgeous grounds and the interpretive center .After the visit we proceed to Sol Mor Ostaig for a short tour of this Gaelic speaking College .We the return to our bed and breakfast in Portree.

Tuesday June 19
8am: Depart for Armadale ferry and the crossing to Mallaig. We proceed to Morar and Arisaig with some brief stops and then to Glenfinnan and see the area where Prince Charlie came ashore to reclaim the crown. Visit the excellent Interpretive Center. We then journey on the Road to the Isles to Fort William and travel to Roy Bridge where we enjoy a lovely lunch with some locals at the Parish Hall in Roy Bridge. Our local guide Ronnie Campbell will fascinate with his commentary as we travel with him to Bohuntin/Glen Roy and cille choirill  church. Departing Roy Bridge we travel south stopping In Glencoe town and then an additional stop amidst the dramatic hills of Glencoe. Leaving Glencoe we motor south towards Glasgow travelling along Loch Lomond for a last photo op. Arrive at the hotel in Glasgow at 730pm

Depart for airport at 7am
Flight departs at 0930
Arrive Halifax 1145 am

Please note ferry schedule from Scotland for 2018 will not be finalized until ec 2017. This itinerary by Sandy Travel is based on the schedule from 2017. Once the schedule is released in early 2018 there can be the possibility of sometime changes but it is unlikely to be anything significant.
